Configuring the capture scope to back up only specific sites using the Rolling site collection scope option
The SharePoint connector can back up all SharePoint site collections that are not associated with Microsoft 365 Group and Team sites (excluding the Communication sites). The Microsoft 365 Group and Team data can be backed up using the Teams site collection connector using the
option. If you have many site collections in your organization, you can create multiple connectors and map the sites to each of these connectors using the Rolling site collection option.
To configure capture scopes to back up only specific sites using the Rolling site collection scope option
- Click All site collections.
- Do the following to enter a URL of the Admin center:
Click the Use default icon next to the Admin site URL option.
The default URL is populated in the field as https://<company>-admin.sharepoint.com.
Replace <company> with the name of the organization or tenant.
- Click the Rolling site collection scope option and then enter the number of sites you want to map for this connector.
Only the specified number of sites are backed up using this connector.
- Do the following:
To back up new and modified files, select the Continuous data protection check box.
This option does not work with App registration. Basic or Modern Authentication is required.
To back up document libraries only, select the Process document libraries only check box.
If this check box is selected, lists, blogs, and wikis are excluded from the backup.
To exclude SharePoint internal lists and catalog-based libraries, such as the master page gallery, preservation hold library, and style library from the backup, select the Exclude system lists check box.
To set the number of versions of the item that are to be backed up, select the Capture max__versions check box and enter the number of versions to be backed up.
If the check box is not selected, all versions of the items are backed up. When the check box is selected, only the set number of versions is backed up. Any versions beyond the specified number are marked as Removed from source.
To back up the settings, columns, and content types, select the Capture settings, columns, content types check box.
This check box is selected by default. If the check box is not selected, the backup does not include the settings, columns, and content types at the site collection, sub-site, and list levels. The site collections, sites, and lists are not recreated during restore.
If the setting was previously enabled and subsequently disabled after a few backups, the corresponding information gets removed from the backup. Subsequent backups capture the metadata again if there are any changes.
See Supported and unsupported SharePoint Settings and Types for backup and restore.
To back up the SharePoint permission objects, select the Capture permissions check box.
Subsequent backups recapture these settings if they have changed. Permission changes are only captured during full backups for items and their stub.
If the setting was enabled earlier and subsequently disabled after a few backups, the corresponding information is removed from the backup. Subsequent backups capture the metadata again if there are any changes.
See Supported SharePoint permission objects for backup and restore.
- Configure folder filter to limit the backup scope to specific folders.
- Click Next to configure credentials.
