Device replication
If you store vault store partitions on devices that offer data replication, you might consider this a suitable data backup depending on your recovery strategy for Enterprise Vault.
For example, Centera devices offer replication of vault store partitions. During shortcut processing, Enterprise Vault queries the Centera to ascertain whether each item has been replicated. When Enterprise Vault is satisfied that an item has been replicated to another Centera device, it converts the pending item to a shortcut and removes the safety copy of the item.
Veritas FileStore devices can also replicate data, and automatically indicate that each partition has been replicated by writing a trigger file to the root of the partition.
