It is essential to be able to recover your applications and data from a disaster in today’s connected world.

As cybercrime and security breaches become more sophisticated, it is important for an organization to define its data recovery and protection strategies.

The ability to quickly handle incidents can reduce downtime and minimize both financial and reputational damages, but that’s not the only reason to be able to recover from disasters.  According to the Uptime Institute Global Data Center Survey 2021, human errors are still the major reason for data center outages, but security, IT equipment failures, power, networking, cooling are also listed as leading causes of data center outages.

Other reasons such as natural events and regulatory compliance requirements add to the importance of having a disaster recovery plan.

Veritas designed NetBackup for Kubernetes to offer operational simplicity, enterprise-grade resiliency, choice, and flexibility for Kubernetes workload protection.

In an upcoming blog and video on Kubernetes Application Consistent Backups, we will demonstrate how you can orchestrate the backup and restore of the applications on Kubernetes clusters.

Until then, it’s important to note that in addition to using these backup images to recover the Kubernetes Application and associated data in the event of a disaster, you must also recover the etcd database that holds all the cluster configurations.

Learn how to protect the etcd database on a Kubernetes Cluster Environment using Veritas NetBackup:

In summary, you’ll be using the etcd snapshot utility along with Veritas NetBackup backup policies to create a backup copy of the etcd database.
