Recommendations

1. Review the Windows Event Viewer for messages from vxio or vxdmp. Messages from these drivers are typically accompanied by a Windows driver status return code in the form of a hexadecimal code. These codes can be used to determine if there is a problem reading the disks. Further information on vxio messages can be found in an article in the Related Documents section of this article.
Note: A common driver status return code for this issue is 0xc00000a2. This translates to STATUS_MEDIA_WRITE_PROTECTED. Veritas Storage Foundation for Windows (SFW) cannot import a disk group that is not writeable. This status code appears due to a SAN (Storage Area Network) configuration that causes the disks or LUNs (Logical Unit Number) to be write-protected. Consult the vendor of the disk array for information on modifying the configuration to make the LUNs writeable.
2. If there are multiple paths to the storage, bring the system down to a single path, rescan and attempt to import the disk group again. Further information on troubleshooting problems reading the private region can be found in an article in the Related Documents section of this article.
