Problem

How to perform a manual Backup and Restore of Backup Exec database (BEDB).

Solution

Backup Exec automatically sets up a daily backup (dump) of the BEDB as a part of Database Maintenance,But there are times when it is required to back up the BEDB manually.

For example, It is required to backup the BEDB prior upgrading Backup Exec or before performing maintenance on the media server.

Dump Database function is used to backup the BEDB to the hard drive. After dumping the database , It is possible to recover the media server from a failure.

Note:
Dumping a database is another term for backing up a database.

  1. In the task pane, select Database Tasks->Dump Database. Or right click on the Server name in the Right Pane and choose Dump database.
  1. After the operation finishes, click Close on the Operation Progress screen.
