Description

Veritas eDiscovery Platform (eDP) relies upon specific versions of the Java Development Kit (JRockit or JDK) to function. If the major version of Java (IE Java 8.x, Java 9.x, Java 10.x) does get upgraded independently of an eDP upgrade, it will need to be removed and the correct version reinstalled. Altering the major installation version of Java from what is provided with eDP will cause unexpected and often undesirable results and removing Java will disable eDP completely. Should this happen in your eDP environment, the situation is correctable. Reinstalling Java will require approximately 30 minutes of time during which eDP will be unavailable for use.  Follow the steps below to reinstall the major version of Java.

NOTE: To update the minor Java version (jdk-8u191, jdk-8u202) on eDP versions 8.1.1 CHF2 and above, please contact technical support.

Step One - Download the correct version of Java for your version of eDP
1. Visit the Veritas Portal and download the version of eDP installed in your environment.

2. The Veritas_eDiscovery_Platform_Installer_X.X_Full.ZIP downloaded in step 1 will contain the JDKs in the \packages\JDK folder.

Step Two - Remove the incorrect version of Java
If running a distributed architecture environment, this must be repeated on all servers but can be done concurrently

1. Log into the eDP server with an Administrator account

2. Verify that there are no eDP jobs running and no users logged in (if possible).

3. Stop eDP services with Option 3 in the Clearwell Utility.

4. Within the Windows Services Console, temporarily set all services that start with ESA to "disabled".

5. Navigate to the Windows Control Panel and uninstall all instances of Java - afterwards a reboot of the server will be required.

6. Once the server is rebooted, log back into Windows with an Administrator account.

Step Three - Installing the correct version of Java
If running a distributed architecture environment, this must be repeated on all servers but can be done concurrently

1.  The JDK folder contains a 32 bit and 64 bit installer. Both versions are required for eDP.  Each installation must be run as an Administrator account. Anti-Virus software must be disabled during the installation.

2. Run the 32 bit installer first.
For eDP 7.1.2 through 7.1.5 this installer is called - "jrockit-jdk1.6.0_31-R28.2.3-4.1.0-windows-ia32.exe"
For eDP 8.x and later this installer is called - "jdk-XuXX-windows-i586.exe"

3. During the installation, you will be prompted twice for installation directories. At the first prompt, you must supply the custom path in the chart below.

4. Click the "Change" button and supply the path indicated in the chart below entitled "Which Java is right for my eDP server and where do I install it?"
First install path - this needs to be changed Change folder name to match the chart
5. FIRST 32 BIT INSTALL PATH - This needs to be changed

6. At the second prompt, you must accept the default path that begins with "C:\Program Files (x86)"
Second install path, this stays as is

7. All other default options can be accepted.

1. Run the 64 bit installer next.
For eDP 7.1.2 through 7.1.5 this installer is called - "jrockit-jdk1.6.0_31-R28.2.3-4.1.0-windows-x64.exe"
For eDP 8.x and higher this installer is called - "jdk-XuXX-windows-x64.exe"

2. During the installation, you will be prompted twice for installation directories. At the first prompt, you must supply the custom path in the chart below.

3. Click the "Change" button and supply the path indicated in the chart below entitled "Which Java is right for myeDP server and where do I install it?"
first path - this must be changed User-added image
4. FIRST 64 BIT INSTALL PATH - This needs to be changed

5. At the second prompt, you must accept the default path that begins with "C:\Program Files"
User-added image

6. All other default options can be accepted.

Step Four - Wrap Up
1. Once the 32 and 64 bit versions of Java have been reinstalled, go back into the Windows Services Console and set eDP services to Automatic.

2. Restart the server(s) and eDP should now work as normal.
