Getting started with Velocity REST APIs
Velocity provides REST APIs that expose basic NAS server capabilities of the Velocity Storage Server.
The APIs allow NAS clients to do the following:
Create a NAS source share, which enables NAS clients to create, read, write, and delete files and folders within a share.
Create a snapshot of a NAS source share, which instantly preserves a copy of a snapshot without consuming additional data storage.
Create a NAS sandbox share, which instantly creates a read/write copy of a snapshot without consuming additional data storage.
Storage is consumed only when a NAS client modifies data within that share, for example during a copy-on-write action.
Delete NAS shares and snapshots, which removes the exported NAS path from the Velocity Storage Server and reclaims the associated storage.
These APIs affect only the Velocity Storage Server. They do not provide any capabilities on the NAS client.
The NAS client must use other ways to do the following:
Mount or attach to a NAS share.
Create, read, write, or delete files and folders within a NAS share.
Unmount or detach from a NAS share.
The following combinations are supported:
Windows using SMB
Linux using NFS
Before you can use REST APIs in Velocity, you must authenticate a user.
