Supported upgrade paths
Direct upgrade paths
NetBackup 5220, 5230, 5240, or 5330 appliances with version 2.7.x, 3.0 and 3.1
NetBackup 5240 appliances with versions 2.7.3, 3.0 and 3.1
NetBackup 5340 appliances with version 3.1
Two-step upgrade path
Any NetBackup 5230 and 5330 appliances with versions earlier than 2.7.1 must be upgraded twice to get to version 3.1.1. It is recommended that these systems first be upgraded to version 3.1, and then upgraded to version 3.1.1.

Then use this document to upgrade to the latest Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) supported appliance software version.
