NetBackup 8.3.0.1 application new features, enhancements, and changes
The following list describes the new features, enhancements, and changes that are specific to the NetBackup 8.3.0.1 application. The application also includes the new features from NetBackup unless they are called out as exceptions in this guide. See the NetBackup Release Notes for more information.
This release introduces the WORM (Write Once Read Many) storage server application. WORM storage server instances prevent your data from being encrypted, modified, or deleted.
Note:
The WORM storage server application is included with the NetBackup release but follows a different version scheme. WORM storage server version 13.0.1.1 requires a version 8.3.0.1 master server and media server.
This release supports the NetBackup feature MSDP cloud, a new cloud solution with the deduplication technology. With this feature, one MSDP storage server can support both local storage and multiple cloud storage targets.
Note:
MSDP cloud replaces the Cloud Catalyst feature. Cloud Catalyst is still available for this release but will not be supported in the future.
For more information about MSDP cloud, refer to the NetBackup Deduplciation Guide.
Master server application instances now have the ability to monitor critical NetBackup services and attempt to restart them if any go down.
Note:
NetBackup services health monitoring is only available if the appliance is running version 2.0 or later before you create or upgrade the master server instance.
See Monitoring NetBackup services on a NetBackup master server instance.
Starting with this release, you can configure the NetBackup catalog backup policy to send disaster recovery files to a Network File System (NFS) share.
See Mounting an NFS share on a NetBackup master server instance.
Upgrade rollback is no longer supported for application instances with MSDP storage. Once the upgrade completes successfully, you cannot roll back to the previous release.
