Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a double-edged sword — both a blessing and a curse. Why? Most of us enjoy heightened productivity and efficiency, exploring the benefits and simplifying our mundane tasks. Yet, cybercriminals are also leveraging AI, with increasingly devastating impact. To mitigate this, the Veritas strategy is to augment human productivity enabling the data protection teams to deliver simpler protection, smarter detection, and faster recovery.

At Veritas, I face the question daily: "How do we protect global data and recover billions of files after a breach?" Yes, I mean a billion files. Consider this, one phishing email, one exposed cloud storage bucket, or a set of stolen credentials that can lead to a breach, exposing billions of records.

I call this a gigabreach because it contains more than a billion records, also a homage to the Back to the Future movies and the 1.21 Gigawatts required to send Marty McFly Back to the Future.

Planning for a Gigabreach

These gigabreaches can have catastrophic consequences for downtime, reputational damage, and regulatory fines, not to mention the months of recovery and reorganization to confirm your system can return to normalcy. But this is now the expected outcome for even the most minor infiltration.

Every day, I meet with customers to discuss their concerns with their current data protection strategy, and in most cases these conversations center around recovery. Infrastructures have become so complex and sprawling that it adds confusion, chaos, and doubt that recovery is even possible when an outage occurs. Organizations are looking at thousands of Virtual Machines, hundreds of different types of workloads, spread throughout data centers and edge devices. They need reassurance that they can recover their data safely, without reintroducing an infected file or access point.

By listening to customers and looking at ways to evolve data protection to get ahead of tomorrow’s cyber threats, Veritas is excited to announce new innovations to enhance data protection, detect infiltrations, and ensure rapid recovery for Cyber Resilience with Zero Doubt. We believe these new innovative features will help enable organizations to adopt a proactive approach to security, rather than relying solely on reactive measures.

Introducing New Veritas Cyber Resilience Features

Today, Veritas is excited to announce new innovations across the Veritas Data Protection and Security portfolio that will help anticipate potential threats, and take preventative steps to mitigate risks, to meet your needs today, and ultimately be resilient into the future.

As Veritas works alongside our customers and plans for a potential gigabreach, we are specifically looking at ways we can make recovery simple, smarter, and faster. With automatic discovery of unprotected assets and recommending clean recovery points, you can simplify steps in the data protection process. With threat hunting and risk assessment, you can rest assured smart detection is continuously available. And with new recovery blueprints you can verify faster recovery.

Simple, Streamlined Data Protection

Earlier this year Veritas introduced Veritas Alta Copilot and it is now generally available for all Alta View customers. This AI operational assistant works to streamline your data protection by automatically identifying unprotected assets across the environment, ensuring comprehensive coverage and assisting you in getting those assets protected. With Alta Copilot Automated Protection Policy Creation recommends protection policies automatically. It analyzes asset data and configuration settings to create tailored backup policies, ensuring optimal protection without manual intervention. Simplifying one step further, the Alta Copilot Intelligent Job Failure Analysis can examine logs from failed backup jobs and then recommends remediation pathways within Domain management.

Smart System Infiltration Detection

Available in Veritas NetBackup and Alta Data Protection, are system infiltration and remediation so that you have the valuable information you need to remain cyber resilient. With Threat Hunting and Blast Radius Analysis, admins can search for potential Incidents of Compromise (IoCs) using a hash-based content index to rapidly identify and locate infected files across an entire NetBackup-protected environment, without the need for a file scan. This means you can quickly and detect and mitigate threats across all data assets, knowing exactly where and how far potential damage might extend. With Automated Risk Assessment, Security Score, and Remediation you can visualize your risk posture across security, data protection, and host communication to evaluate and know how to improve your current risk mitigation measures. This provides you with a comprehensive view of security posture, evaluating factors such as backup frequency and potential vulnerabilities.

Ensuring Faster Recovery

To improve operational efficiency and continuity, Veritas NetBackup and Alta Data Protection have new features focused on accelerating recovery operations. With Automated Intelligent Recovery Point Suggestions you receive a proactive, in-depth analysis with recommended recovery points. The recovery point suggestions recommend the most recent backup, without contaminated data to minimize recovery time and potential data loss. Alongside these suggestions, you can create easily customizable and granular controls to help automate the recovery process to meet complex hybrid, PaaS, containerized, and multi-cloud requirements with Recovery Blueprints for Orchestrated Recovery.

To ensure flexibility, Veritas enables Cross-Cloud Recovery to improve recoverability and resilience for heterogeneous, multi-cloud environments. NetBackup and Alta Data Protection can read data from a source cloud provider and then write/recover to a different cloud provider, allowing seamless data movement between hypervisors.

Exciting Times Ahead

With today’s announcement, we continue our unwavering commitment to ensuring your organization is always secure and resilient—across all your environments, at any scale.

Regarding what the future holds for our data protection and security portfolio, we can only share our intention to merge with Cohesity, and until that transaction is complete, we will continue to operate as two separate companies. As Veritas, we’re committed to supporting all products for their full lifespan. Users of Veritas Alta, NetBackup, and NetBackup Appliances are assured all products will continue forward with a cadence of software releases with new functionality on the platforms you depend upon.

While I look forward to sharing some of those exciting developments and enhancements with you in the future, for now, I want to reassure you that you will not have any disruption to your business while Veritas enters this new chapter. We will continue to listen to you, and monitor industry trends, so you can stay cyber resilient. We know you count on us to protect, secure, and recover your most valuable assets. We take that responsibility seriously and continuing to earn your trust is part of every decision we make.
