Snigdha Das Sharma—Making History on Our Cloud Journey

To celebrate and recognize Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day (IWD) 2023, Veritas is taking a closer look into the women behind the Company’s journey to the Cloud and how they and our leadership are Embracing Equity (the 2023 IWD theme).

In our second installment, I had the opportunity to connect with Snigdha Das Sharma, a Quality Assurance Manager, who is based at our Santa Clara, California headquarters and has been with Veritas for twelve years. Snigdha is responsible for ensuring the highest quality of our IT Analytics products to provide the best possible value-add to our customers. We began our conversation by asking about who or what had sparked her interest in studying technology.

Q: Snigdha, can you share who inspired you to pursue a career in technology?

I have always been fascinated by science and technology. My father is a retired Professor of Medicine. We used to tinker with our home appliances and fix them ourselves. So, naturally, I was inclined toward science and technology when I was growing up. I am living the dream of working in the most exciting era of human innovation and I’m happy to be making a small contribution to improve our lives and the planet by advancing computing through my work.

Q: I couldn’t agree more, it is an exciting time in human history to be working in technology! Can you elaborate on how your role has been instrumental in our journey to the Cloud?

Cloud brings us scale in terms of our validation infrastructure and deployment. Earlier we were constrained by the computing resources we had on-premises. Now with Cloud, we can test our software at scale. We also get to see how our solutions work in the Cloud. This has resulted in our software being of higher quality and performance.

Q: What an incredible opportunity, thank you to you and your team for your contributions. This year’s International Women’s Day theme is Embrace Equity; can you share with us what equity means to you?

Equity is the quality of being fair and impartial. To me, it means that everyone has the same opportunity at succeeding in an environment that understands that context, and encourages risk-taking, and rewards successes and learnings from fast failures that can be turned into successes.

Q: I absolutely agree. How has your leadership embraced equity within your group?

We have embraced equity very well and accommodate peoples’ needs. We have a great work environment. Our Veritas leadership team has empowered me with everything that will help me be successful, like asking for input, encouraging open communications, mentoring us, letting us not fear failures but learn from our mistakes, reinforcing positive feedback, and much more. Colleagues pitch in to help others; it’s a positive working environment and culture with no proverbial silos. I’ve been with my team for 12+ years because I like working with technically savvy people, but more importantly, they’re terrific colleagues. An equitable workplace is essential to get to this level of camaraderie.

Q: What an amazing team to be a part of. As a woman, what unique career barriers have you faced and how have you overcome them?

I am not sure how unique it is. We all juggle multiple things at work, home, and with parents in a different continent. It comes down to prioritizing, setting the right expectations, helping others when they need it, and asking for help. It is amazing how many people will pitch in and help if you ask.

Q: That is such a great attitude to have, especially when you have so many responsibilities both in and outside of work. What advice would you give other women who want to grow their technology career?

Follow your passion. Learn from your mistakes. Life is a journey, so enjoy every moment and take the outcomes in the right stride.

Q: Thank you, Snigdha, for great advice. Can you share with us what excites you most about the future of Veritas?

We are on a good growth trajectory. Our customers need us to be successful. I am excited to do my part in making Veritas and our customers successful.
