The SGMON debug log output for beremote from the Backup Exec media server, displays the following line items below:

BELogonUser: beclass::IsThisMe() returned error: 87
LogonType set = [LOGON32_LOGON_INTERACTIVE][0x2]

LogonuserError: 1326
LogonUser failed for user: <Machine name>\<Account User name>
BELogonUser: beclass::IsThisMe() returned error: 87

Cause

   1. Account used to backup the Virtual Machines have insufficient rights.
   2. System logon account is not configured.

Solution

  1. Make sure the account used to backup Virtual Machines has the required permissions. https://www.veritas.com/docs/100001762
  2. Add a System Logon Account if not configured under "Configuration and Settings" and "Logon Accounts".
  3. If System Logon Account already created then you can try to recreate the account. We have seen that the credentials problem was resolved by re-creating the SYSTEM LOGON ACCOUNT in Backup Exec per the steps below:
  • From the Backup Exec main menu, select "Configuration and Settings".
  • Select "Logon Accounts".
  • Click on "System Account" button from the right menu.
  • Enter the service credentials for Backup Exec and enter the password.
  • Check the box "This is my default logon account" , and click the OK button.

NOTE : The same error has been found while restoring a VM machine to a different ESX Server .  Restoring it through vCenter does work if we select System logon account.
