How to set up automatic ingestion of NetBackup deduplicated backups
The following items are required:
NetBackup 8.1 or later with EEB 3931847 version 1
Linux NetBackup master server
Velocity 2.9 or later
A Velocity Storage Server that is already configured
The following items are supported:
One backup deduplication target per master server domain.
Full backups only.
All Oracle and SQL Server configurations that are listed in the Velocity Software Compatibility list, except Oracle RAC and ASM databases.
One Oracle database per NetBackup policy.
One SQL Server database per NetBackup policy.
The original backup. Replicated or deduplicated backups are not supported.
Table: How to set up automatic ingestion of NetBackup deduplicated backups
Do this | Important notes |
---|---|
1. On the NetBackup master server, install NetBackup EEB 3931847 version 1. | The NetBackup EEB is located in the public packages share in a folder called eebs. |
2. On the NetBackup master server, install the Velocity Client for Linux. | |
3. In NetBackup, set up the Velocity Storage Server as a Disk Storage Server. | Be sure to select the following options in the NetBackup Storage Server Configuration Wizard:
For details about how to configure disk storage servers in NetBackup, see the NetBackup Administrator's Guide. |
4. In NetBackup, create a new NetBackup policy or edit an existing policy to include the Velocity storage unit as the policy's storage. | Be sure to select the Velocity storage unit in the Policy storage field. For details about which policy options are supported, see the following topics: See Supported Oracle policy options for automatic ingestions of NetBackup deduplicated backups. See Supported SQL Server policy options for automatic ingestions of NetBackup deduplicated backups. For details about how to create or edit a NetBackup policy, see the NetBackup Administrator's Guide. |
5. In Velocity, configure the Velocity Client for Linux to establish a secure communications channel between the NetBackup master server and Velocity. | |
6. (For SQL Server only) Ensure that the Velocity Client for Windows is installed on the SQL Server sandbox host and that you use a user account that can attach and own databases on the SQL Server instance. |
After completing the setup steps, you can add an Oracle database or a SQL database to Velocity as a database source to enable automatic ingestion of NetBackup deduplicated backups. After the database source is added, Velocity users can create sandboxes in Velocity from NetBackup backups.
