NetBackup character restrictions for virtual machine display names and other vSphere objects
For VMware VMs in a NetBackup policy, certain characters are not allowed in the VM display name or in the names of other vSphere objects.
If the name contains the wrong characters, the backup may fail.
For NetBackup, the following characters are allowed in virtual machine display names, cluster names, datastore names, file names, or folder names:
Uppercase and lowercase ASCII characters
Numbers
Period (.)
Note however that a display name cannot end with a period.
Hyphen (-)
Underscore (_)
Plus sign (+)
Percent sign (%)
Left and right parentheses ()
Spaces
Note:
No other characters are allowed.
For the policies that select virtual machines automatically:
A space in a display name is converted to "%20" in the test query results if the virtual machine is listed as included.
A percent sign (%) in a display name is converted to %25 in the test query results if the virtual machine is listed as included. When you specify the display name in a query, replace the % character with %25.
Application-aware VMware backups for SharePoint are not supported if the virtual machine display name contains a percent sign (%).
See Primary VM identifier options (VMware).
See In the policy Query Builder, display names, resource pool names, and vApp names are case-sensitive.
