Viewing the storage on the Velocity physical appliance
After the appliance storage is configured, you can use the Manage > Storage > Show command to view storage details.
To view appliance storage information
- Log on to the Velocity shell menu.
- Go to the Manage > Storage view.
- Run the Show <ALL|Disk|Distribution|Partition> command.
The ALL option displays all of the information that is shown for the Disk, Distribution, and Partition options.
Note:
The Available and Used size values displayed for the VPFS partition may not be the full space available or used by the VPFS partition. This is because space is reserved by the file system and also by VPFS. The file system reserves space for its own use. In addition, VPFS reserves 4 percent of the storage space for the deduplication database and transaction logs.
The disks listed by the Show command are not the physical disks themselves. Rather, they are storage volumes that are made up of specific physical disks in the storage shelf.
Table: Disk (volume) types
Type | Description |
---|---|
System | The onboard storage that is occupied by the appliance operating system, logs etc. This disk is located in the compute node, and not in the storage shelf. |
Data | All partitions, except VPFS Catalog, exist on the Data disks. There are six data disks in the Primary Storage Shelf. |
Meta | The VPFS Catalog partition exists only on the Metadata disk. There is one Metadata disk in the Primary Storage Shelf. |
Unknown | This category appears when appliance cannot determine the disk type, such as when the disk is not accessible. |
